ABOUT

The first meeting of the Moreton in Marsh Probus Club took place on the 9th October 1972 in The Bell Inn in the High Street. A Committee of 6 was elected from the 14 men who had applied for membership and paid the initial subscription of £1. The Chairman, Mr. H. C. Taylor, announced that the Committee would draw up a constitution for the Club, and this would be presented at the second meeting on 23rd October. A vote of thanks was proposed for the Rotary Club of Moreton who had initiated the establishment of the Club, and good wishes were offered by the chairman and secretary of the Stow on the Wold Probus Club. The first talk was given at the second meeting by club member Mr. G. G. McDonald, entitled "A wine tasting hike through Burgundy". Our 1000th meeting was celebrated on the 11th November 2019, with a lunch held at Broadway Golf Club.

Our current membership is 43, including our Honorary Members who have served the Club with distinction in the past and have now reached the venerable age of 90. We also have five Lady Guests, whose husbands were former members and whom we invite to our social events.

The Club is still managed by a Committee headed by the Chairman, and assisted by the Secretary, Treasurer, Social Secretary and Speaker Finder. We also now have a Webmaster whose task is to ensure our website is kept up to date and informative. Each of these roles has a Deputy, all of whom are members of the Committee. The Committee is elected at our Annual General Meeting in January each year. The Chairman serves one year, but the other roles have lengths of office determined by the willingness to serve of the office holder, or the willingness of the membership to keep them!
